Campus master plans presented, discussed

planning photo

Members of the campus community met Monday in the UC with representatives from the professional campus planning firm of JJR, Inc. of Madison to learn about three alternative master plans for the UWRF campus. Jon Hoffman of JJR, and the project manager for UWRF's master planning project, addressed the audience as part of the Campus Master Plan Open House. New building sites, locations for future roadways, parking lots, and land/boundary expansions were presented and discussed, all intended to cast a vision for the next 15-20 years. All presentation materials will be posted on the UWRF Integrated Planning website once received from JJR. Comments regarding the alternative plans can be sent via email to dale.k.braun@uwrf.edu. For more photos by Jens Gunelson, visit http://www.uwrf.edu/photo_archive/ later today.

Announcements

Testing Center needs adequate time to make effective plans
Rapidly increasing numbers of students have disabilities and should be allowed various types of test taking accommodations. To have that option in your course they should pro-actively provide you an individualized memo from Disability Services that identifies the nature of their particular accommodations. Even after receiving such a memo, wait for the students to outwardly request the accommodations on a per test basis. It's quite rare that any students use accommodations on all tests. They nearly always make decisions to use or not use accommodations upon personal and ever changing factors that are known only by individual students. This makes it their responsibility to plan ahead.

Of course it’s your option as a professor to conduct an accommodated test yourself. You may also refer such a student to the Testing Center so the test will be administered on your behalf. However, the Testing Center is not a drop-in place; adequate lead time is always required to make plans for each test. For a test to occur in the Testing Center, the student is supposed to complete the top portion of a purple test scheduling form, ask you to sign the bottom, and then the student is expected to deliver the form to the Academic Success Center by five days before the test. If the form is received with less lead-time, the Testing Center will make every reasonable effort to expedite the planning process. However, the center reserves the right to not become involved if there isn’t enough time to confidently plan the safe handling of your test. If that’s the case, you will be informed and can probably legally deny the accommodation for that particular test, or elect to allow the student a delayed test date at the Testing Center. Just as you expect the student to sufficiently study in advance of your test, please expect the student to approach you with a purple test scheduling form long enough in advance that the Testing Center can make effective plans. Every accommodated student has received both verbal and written instructions regarding these protocols. It’s recommended to consult Mark Johnson at 3531 before deciding to deny an accommodated test.
