collections on display downstairs at the River Falls Public Library.
The display runs through Friday, Sept. 4.
The collection contains beautiful minerals from around the
world, but focuses on Wisconsin minerals and the geology of the
Pierce-St. Croix County areas.
Cordua will be giving a talk, "The Geology of the River Falls
Area," at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Public Library. Following
the talk, Cordua will be available to help identify geological
specimens brought in by the public. Please, no more than three samples

Old dairy barn demolition near completion
Silos tower over debris left from demolition of
the old milking barn at Lab Farm No. 1 earlier this week. Much of the
interior structure including rafters, plywood, lumber, and sheet metal
was salvaged. Ceiling panels and insulation containing asbestos were
removed and
disposed of by proper methods. The non-asbestos roof shingles were
removed and disposed of at a land fill. Masonry concrete walls and
floors will be hauled to a recycle site. The silos on the site will
gradually be sold, if possible, or removed as budgets permit. The
milking barn was constructed in 1959 and served as the dairy herd
center for almost 50 years before it was replaced by the Dairy
Learning Center at the Mann Valley Farm in 2007. The demolition project
began July 27 and is expected to be completed next week. The site, once
cleared, will be landscaped and seeded. For

Summer construction and project update
Thank you to everyone for your patience and understanding as we near
the end of a very busy summer of construction on campus. While nearly
all projects are finishing on time, there are a few that will extend
into the academic year, notably the Wall Amphitheatre and the North
Hall entry step replacement projects. At this point, there are two
things that will further insure that we have the campus in the best
position possible as we welcome new students, faculty, and staff next
week. One, please communicate to us any perceived incomplete work that
may serve as a disruption to the start of the new academic year. Two,
please hold on any new or additional work or project requests that can
wait until mid-September or later. Our priorities right now are to have
the residence halls and academic buildings ready as well as bring a
close to all major and small projects. Any questions, contact
Facilities Management at ext. 3827.
