UWRF faculty member Cheng-Chen Huang was among
eight UW System faculty members have received awards through the
Applied Research Grant Program, a collaborative effort between UW
System and the WiSys Technology Foundation, Inc., to develop commercial
applications of their research.
The winners will each receive awards up to $50,000 to support their
research. Huang's research project is “Screening for Potent
Attenuators of Heart Failure Progression Using a Zebrafish Heart
Failure Model.”

Amphitheatre's makeover nearing completion
Face-lift work continues on the Wall
Amphitheatre. Some minor repair was required due to the torrential rain
over the weekend. Actual construction will be completed before the end
of
August with establishment of turf and some follow-up details continuing

S parking lot closed Aug. 12 - 18
S lot will be closed from Wednesday, Aug. 12, through Aug. 18. The lot
must be completely cleared of all vehicles and materials by the end of
today, Aug. 11. Pierce County will be seal coating, rolling and
sweeping the lot and then Facilities Management will
stripe the lot. These dates may change depending on the weather. If
there are changes to the dates, an email notification will be sent. If
the barricades are up, the lot is closed. Once the barricades are
removed, the lot will be open. Even if the work appears to be
completed,
please refrain from parking in the lot until the barricades are removed
as some small maintenance item may still need to take place. Thank you
for
your cooperation.

van training available
Training is available for the 15-passenger van on Friday, Aug. 14
(afternoon) or Monday, Aug. 17 (morning). If you are interested in

The first Academic Staff Council Meeting for 2009-10 will be held on

Community involvement welcome in planning process
UWRF faculty, staff and students are invited to participate in the
strategic planning process for the River Falls Public Schools (early
childhood through grade 12). Community involvement is critical to the
process. This is a wonderful opportunity to positively impact the
future of local schools, to strengthen community-University
connections, and to use your expertise and/or personal experiences to
help set priorities. Work will begin Sept. 17 on the six action goals:
community engagement; school facilities; global citizenship; healthy
