Year of Mexico events today celebrate Day of the Dead

Also happening today is Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) event (10 a.m.-7 p.m. in the Falls Room, UC) celebrating and remembering friends and family members who have passed away. This holiday is celebrated throughout Mexico by building private altars called ofrendas, honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, favorite foods and mementos of remembrance. UW System strategic planning process final UWRF Open Forum today

Faculty, staff and students at each institution in the UW System are invited to participate in the UW System’s strategic planning process. At the final open forum today at 3 p.m. in the St. Croix Room, UC, you will have the chance to preview and discuss the draft UWRF response to UW System, based on input gathered in the first Open Forum and through the survey tool.


Annual holiday plant sale pre-orders

The UWRF Horticulture Society is taking pre-orders for their annual Holiday Plant Sale. Available for pre-order are a variety of poinsettias, cyclamen, also Norfolk pine and Christmas cactus. These plants, along with a selection of houseplants, will also be available for purchase at the sale Dec. 1 in Ag Science, and Dec. 2-3 in the UC. Coffee With a Cop, Wednesday, Nov. 4, 8 a.m., 129 RDI. Join your neighbors and police officers for coffee and conversation. No agenda or speeches, just a chance to aask questions, voice concerns, and get to know the officers in your neighborhood. 

The UWRF Society of Physics Students (SPS) invites you to join their weekly meeting to a presentation Wednesday  Nov. 4, 12:15-1 p.m. in 152 CSH by Nick Hamel, St. Paul Central site director for the Breakthrough Twin Cities program. Breakthrough Twin Cities prepares under-resourced students for college success and cultivates the next generation of educators. Learn about the work they are doing and about opportunities for paid summer internships and hang–out with physics majors. Feel free to bring your lunch to the presentation. Day of the Dead Free Sugar Skull Face Painting, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., 102 Hagestad Hall. Hosted by UWRF International Student Services as part of the Year of Mexico campus initiative.

Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) event 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Falls Room, UC. celebrating and remembering friends and family members who have passed away. This holiday is celebrated throughout Mexico by building private altars called ofrendas, honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, favorite foods and mementos of remembrance. The Falls Room is set up as a space in which university faculty, staff and students can participate in a Dia de los Muertos celebration. An ofrenda, put together by the Spanish Club, will be near the entrance to the room. Within the Falls Room there will be a number of tables on which individuals can set up a small ofrenda with pictures, mementos, flowers, or simply a card with the name of a deceased friend or family member. Some flowers and cards will be available that you are welcome to use. Please help us put the word out to students regarding this event and come celebrate Dia de los Muertos with us. This beautiful Mexican holiday is a gesture of love as we celebrate those we love who have gone before us by honoring their lives and their memory.
