Siren test for severe weather today
The City of River Falls will be testing the outdoor warning siren system today, Sept. 29, at about 1 p.m. The testing was postponed from yesterday because of the rain moving through the area.

Language Matters Presentation:  Maximizing Professional Organization Benefits, Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1-2 p.m., Trimbelle River Room, 231 UC. Have you considered a student membership into TESOL? Have you heard of WAIE or WITESOL? During this presentation, Conan Kmiecik and Rhonda Petree will draw upon a combined 20 years of experience to suggest ways to maximize the benefits of belonging to professional organizations. Topics include searching for jobs, accessing grants and awards, engaging in interest sections, participating in board and committee work, and taking advantage of student opportunities and “newcomer” benefits. Language Matters is a series of presentations and discussions on issues regarding second language teaching and learning. The goal of Language Matters is for faculty, staff, and students to share their experiences, expertise, and knowledge. Free and open to all.

Spanish presentation by Michael H. Davis, 6-7 p.m., 281 KFA. The presentation will be in Spanish. Free and open to all. Davis will discuss current issues in the U.S. and international immigration law including their impact on the U.S. presidential race, international politics, and human rights. He will also discuss how a liberal arts education (including foreign language studies) can form an ideal basis for a career in immigration law. Davis is a managing partner at Davis & Goldfarb, PLLC, a full-service immigration law firm with office in Minneapolis and Tel Aviv, Israel. Hosted by the UWRF Spanish Professions Association.
