UWRF physics honor society grows to over 420 life-long members


Physics and dual-degree engineering students were recently inducted into the local chapter of the Sigma Pi Sigma Physics Honor Society. The UWRF chapter was chartered in May 1975. With the induction, the total chapter enrollment rose to more than 420 life-long members. Sigma Pi Sigma recognizes scholastic excellence, encourages interest in physics, promotes a culture of service to others and provides a life-long connection with others who have shared a passion for physics. Submitted photo.

Special offer for employee/student tickets for Scholarship Benefit April 24

The UWRF Foundation has a very limited number of “program only” tickets available for the Fourth Annual Scholarship Benefit featuring Daymond John, founder and CEO of the global lifestyle brand FUBU and star of ABC’s “Shark Tank.” The program is Friday, April 24, at 7 p.m. in Abbott Concert Hall, KFA. Proceeds benefit Falcon Scholar Scholarships. The tickets are available on a first come, first serve basis to UWRF facultystaff and students with valid ID at the reduced rate of $15 each. If interested, tickets can be purchased in the Advancement Office, 310 South Hall. Cash or check accepted.


Seeking participants for wellness study grant

Volunteers are needed to participate in a wellness study grant being performed on campus. The following assessments are free and will take anywhere between 45-60 minutes:  blood lipid/glucose profile, body composition, resting heart rate/blood pressure, medical history questionnaire, physical activity inventory and SF-36 Quality of Life Inventory. Wisconsin Big Idea Tournament is Saturday

Two student teams from UW-River Falls will compete Saturday, April 11, in the finals of the Wisconsin Big Idea Tournament. The WBIT is an entrepreneurship event open to undergraduates attending any two or four year University of Wisconsin school across the state (except UW-Madison). It teaches cutting-edge Lean Startup business development tools, provides business mentorship, and allows participants to compete in a fun format for paid internships and a chance to win $25,000. If you would like to watch the presentations from the UWRF teams, there will be a live stream of the event beginning at 9 a.m.

Classified Staff Advisory Council meeting
The UWRF Classified Staff Advisory Council will meet on Thursday, April 9, at 1:30 p.m. in the Alumni Room, SH. An agenda is posted on the CSAC website at http://www.uwrf.edu/ClassifiedStaffAdvisoryCouncil/Index.cfm. Open to all university staff.

Big Read in the St. Croix Valley Discussion, 4-5 p.m., Davee Library breezeway. The Davee Library has partnered with ArtReach St. Croix to promote their One Book, One Community program that brings together residents throughout the St. Croix Valley around a common book. This year’s book is “Love Medicine” by Minnesota author Louise Erdrich. Lissa Schneider-Rebozo, will lead a discussion of this novel as part of the Big Read initiative. Free and open to all.
