Students study in Japan over Spring Break

Six UWRF students visited Japan during the spring break as part of an education abroad program called HIST 371 Study Trip to Japan: Evolution of Japanese Civilization and Its Modern Transformation. While in Japan, they visited the Imperial Palaces in Tokyo and Kyoto, Todaiji Buddhist Temple in Nara, Hakone-Fuji National Park, and the site of the first atomic bomb explosion and the Peace Park in Hiroshima. International Bazaar tickets
The International Bazaar, an annual event hosted by the Global Programming Society, is Tuesday, March 31, from 6-9 p.m. in the UC. Guests will enjoy food from around the world, cultural demonstrations and activities and fantastic entertainment. The event is free and open to all, but you must pick up a ticket from the Information Desk in the UC to reserve your spot. Last year, the International Bazaar “sold out,” welcoming 600+ guests, so be sure to get your ticket before it’s too late! UW-River Falls is currently hosting 250 international students from 20 different countries. Fourth Annual Scholarship Benefit dinner features Daymond John
The UW-River Falls Rising to Distinction campaign will host a fourth scholarship benefit on Friday, April 24, with keynote speaker Daymond John, Founder & CEO of FUBU and star of ABC’s Shark Tank. Tickets are on sale now. A $60 general admission ticket includes a buffet dinner in the Riverview Ballroom, UC, starting at 5 p.m. and one program ticket for Abbott Concert Hall, KFA, at 7 p.m. Donor society members along with sponsors will also have the opportunity to attend a dessert and book signing reception after the program. Individuals need for reaction time study
Individuals wanted for a naming reaction time study through the UWRF Aphasia Research Lab to investigate the time it takes to name a picture presented on a computer screen. Seeking individuals age 41-80. Participants will be seen twice for 15-25 minutes each, one week apart. Compensation for your time is $10. Confidential shredding opportunity
Facilities Management will have a mobile shredder on campus Tuesday, April 21. Please visit the new confidential shredding website at <http://www.uwrf.edu/Facilities/Confidential-Shredding.cfm> http://www.uwrf.edu/Facilities/Confidential-Shredding.cfm for information on what is considered confidential material and the process for getting your confidential shredding included in the pickup. Work orders listing the number of boxes your department has and their location must be received by the end of the day on Monday, April 13, so the material can be collected by the end of the day on Friday, April 17. Confidential materials for any work orders received after April 13 may not be included in the pickup and may need to be stored by your department until the next pickup which will be in the fall. Upcoming Events

Seminar on Chronic Wasting Disease Transmission, Thursday, March 26, 3-5 p.m., 200 Ag Science. Christina Carlson, postdoctoral fellow with the U.S. Geological Survey National Wildlife Health Center in Madison, will present “Environmental Prion Transmission: Identifying Novel Disease Dissemination Routes.” She will describe her research on Chronic Wasting Disease, the only prion disease known to affect free-ranging wildlife. After her seminar, she will hold an informational session for students on the graduate experience in the sciences at a large research university, and scientific careers with government agencies like the USGS. Refreshments will be provided. Carlson’s visit is sponsored by the UW System Women in Science Program. For more information, call 3363.
