Greta Gaard, professor of English, has been appointed to serve as the Sustainability Fellows Project Manager from Spring 2015 through academic year 2015-16. A member of the Sustainability Fellows from its launch in 2011, Gaard has participated in the training workshop for Kinnickinnick Project (Sustainability Fellows) faculty, screening applicants and giving presentations as well as submitting and developing her courses in the Literature of Environmental Justice (ENGL 228), Green Business Writing (ENGL 266), and Human-Animal Studies (HUM 305).  Her work in sustainability includes five books, more than 70 articles in peer-reviewed journals, and a range of international speaking and consulting projects in the environmental humanities. Gaard’s new appointment will include restructuring the Sustainability Studies curriculum into a certificate program, co-leading this year’s Kinnickinnick Project with Assistant Professor Jarod Blades (Plant & Earth Science), continuing as advisor for the student group ECOS, developing sustainability training for faculty in Opening Week Fall 2015, and investigating strategies for infusing sustainability throughout the General Education curriculum.

UWRF now a partner with Daegu Gyeongbuk English Village

UWRF has recently become a partner with Daegu Gyeongbuk English Village, an English immersion school in South Korea. Our part of the partnership is providing qualified instructors to teach English. Upcoming Events

National School Counseling Week Guest Speaker:  Michael Walker, Monday, Feb. 2, 6:45-8 p.m., Kinnickinnic Theater, UC. National School Counseling Week (Feb. 2-6) celebrates the work of school counselors across the country. Walker is an alumnus of the UWRF counseling program and the director of the Office of Black Male Student Achievement for Minneapolis Public Schools. He is a former basketball coach and assistant principal and works closely with the community on issues such as social justice, equity and closing achievement gaps in public education.
