Classified Staff Holiday Luncheon reservations due Dec. 5

The Classified Staff Holiday Luncheon is set for Wednesday, Dec. 17, from 11:30-2:30 p.m. at Junior's. Please send $13 along with reservation form (emailed to all classified staff) to Elisa Nordin-Berghuis in 105 North Hall by Dec. 5. Door prize donations for the event can be sent to Kay Corey in 136 KFA through Dec. 12.

Alumna Nancy Cooper, joined by Barbara Rebhuhn, will share insight on Lac Courte Oreilles (LCO) tribal governance and cultural values of the LCO tribe. Chinese Tea Ceremony, Thursday, Nov. 20, noon-1 p.m., Falls Room, UC. Explore the ritualized preparation and presentation of tea in a traditional Chinese tea ceremony and explore the idea that the spirit of the tea ceremony embodies the basic principles of harmony, respect and appreciation. Year of China:  Music with Gao Hong, Chinese Pipa Soloist and Composer, Thursday, Nov. 20, 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Abbott Concert Hall, KFA. Hong, renowned as a Chinese musical prodigy and master of the pipa, has performed throughout Europe, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, China and the U.S. Free and open to all.

Language Matters Presentation, 4 p.m., breezeway, Davee Library. Panel discussion “Language Teachers Speak Up!” with Cecilia Bustamante, Diane Jacobson, Dough Margolis, Gretchen Toman and Magara Maeda. What is the best way to learn a foreign language, should students be able to use their first language in the language learning classroom, should culture be addressed? Pub Trivia, 5-7 p.m., Falcon’s Nest, UC. Faculty and staff:  use your noodle, not google! Compete with or against your students. Play as an individual or form teams up to six players. Partake in the original “social network” as pub games have been connecting people for healthy competition since the 1400s. We are working with Minneapolis’ very own Trivia Mafia to host the monthly games. The event is free and open to everyone and includes complementary snacks, beverages, and a cash bar.
