Students and faculty participating in the Semester Abroad Europe program visited the Eiffel Tower on September 8 as part of a guided bike tour of Paris. This unique study abroad program has allowed hundreds of students to chart their own course to Europe since 1963. Photo submitted.

Visitation and Funeral for Charles Lonie this Sunday
The visitation and funeral for former UWRF English professor Charles Lonie will be held this Sunday, October 5 at the Cashman-Hill Funeral Home in River Falls. The reception will begin at 1:30 p.m. and the service at 2:30 p.m. Lonie was a member of the English department from 1965 to 1995. Our Chance to Fly Video Premiere
A short video featuring members of the UWRF and River Falls communities singing along to the UW-River Falls spirit song, “Our Chance to Fly,” will premiere tonight. The video will be shown prior to “The Lego Movie,” at 7:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. in the Kinni Theater in the University Center. The movie screenings are part of this year’s Homecoming/Family Weekend celebration.

Genomics Seminar Today
The Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology is hosting a seminar featuring Michael Thompson, Ph.D., of Illumina, Inc. Thompson will be speaking on the impact of genomics on agriculture. The seminar, which is open to the public, will be in 271 CSH from 3 p.m.–3:45 PM.

Confidential Shredding Services Offered
Facilities Management will have a mobile shredder on campus Tuesday, October 21. This is a great opportunity to get rid of confidential materials. If you have papers you would like shredded, please pack up the materials and then submit a work order listing the number of boxes and the location the boxes can be picked up. Please keep box sizes reasonable for easy handling. Boxes will only be picked up if they are clearly marked “SHRED”. All work orders must be submitted by Wednesday, October 15 so all the boxes can be picked up by the end of the day on Friday, October 18. Boxes will then be kept in a secure storage area until the shredding occurs on Tuesday, October 21.This service is provided free of charge to campus departments. United Way Campaign Ends Today
UWRF's United Way campaign ends today, Friday Oct. 3rd. For those who are interested in donating, visit Molly Matzek in 218D North Hall to obtain a pledge form or call her at 3247 and one will be sent to you. Thank you for your support.

Saturday Prospective Student Visitors
The admissions office will host prospective students and their families on campus Saturday, October 4th at 9:00am. The visit will take place in 120 South Hall. Families will be receiving an admissions overview, hearing from our current students, meeting with deans and faculty in their program, and taking a campus tour. Chilled Water Project Begins Next Week
The project to install underground chilled water piping from the south side of KFA to the east corner of Davee Library will begin the week of October 6. This installation will ultimately provide chilled water to North Hall for summer A/C needs. The project, including restoration, is expected to take three weeks. Upcoming URSCA Grant Deadline
Friday, Oct. 17 is the deadline for the fall round of the Falcon Travel Grant (for undergraduates who wish to present at or attend a discipline-specific conference or event) and the URSCA Mentor Travel Grant (for mentors who wish to accompany undergraduates to a dissemination event) For information on these grants, visit http://www.uwrf.edu/URSCA.
