Participants, including current and former students, come together for a two-week workshop to use the kiln. They spend several days loading ceramic pieces into the wood-fired kiln, which is designed in the spirit of the oldest Japanese or hill-climbing kilns. Then in shifts, teams keep it fueled for five days. The pieces spend several days cooling before they are unloaded.
