After taking third place in the NCAA DIII Ice Hockey Championship in Plattsburgh, NY, over the weekend, the Falcon women's hockey team visited Lake Placid, the site of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. A highlight of the trip was to see and tour the Herb Brooks Arena, one of three ice surfaces in the Olympic Center where the 1980 men's Olympic hockey team defeated the team from the Soviet Union 4-3. The game is often referred to as the Miracle on Ice and was made into a Walt Disney movie, “Miracle,” in 2004 starring Kurt Russell. The Falcon women's team lost to Elmira College in the NCAA ice hockey semi-finals<http://www.uwrfsports.com/news/2015/3/20/WHOCKEY_0320154451.aspx>, but went on to defeat Norwich University 4-3 for third place<http://www.uwrfsports.com/news/2015/3/20/WHOCKEY_0320152201.aspx>.
