Original play opens tonight in Syse Theatre

UWRF students Kelly Mohn, Danielle Formanek and Warren Taylor rehearse the telling and staging of a ghost story for the University Theatre play "Kwaidan: Strange Tales from East Asia," which opens tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Syse Theatre, KFA. An original play by Theatre Professor Robin Murray in collaboration with UWRF theatre major Jeremy Liend and the cast, "Kwaidan" revolves around a group of students on a study exchange trip in Japan learn about the “One Hundred Candles” parlor game and try to play it in an abandoned Bunraku puppet theatre in Tokyo. Admission is $11/adults, $9/seniors, and $5/students. Due to the nature of the show, no one under age 11 will be admitted. Tickets may be purchased or reserved through the University Theatre Box Office in KFA or by phone at 3114. Additional performances April 25-26 and May 1-3. Photo by Kathy M Helgeson.

Honoring years of service and retirements
On May 1, we will be honoring all UWRF employees who have reached a years of service milestone, as well as those who have retired in the past year. Open forums for CBE dean position candidates
Open forums for the three College of Business and Economics Dean position finalists are set for next week. Everyone is encouraged to attend as best fits their schedules. Important key return information
As the end of the academic year approaches, faculty/staff with expiring contracts need to return UWRF keys to Facilities Management, 102 MCS. If there is a possibility that new contracts will be renewed fall/spring, we can hold the keys for reassignment. Also student workers not employed over the summer need to return keys. We can also hold student keys for fall reassignment. It is the employing department’s responsibility to recover keys before employees depart from campus. If you have any questions, contact Facilities Management at 3827.

Legislative panel approves implementation of new personnel systems
The Joint Committee on Employment Relations voted 8-0 yesterday to allow UW System and UW-Madison to move forward with the proposed personnel systems scheduled to begin July 1, 2015. Visitation/funeral information for Alyssa Funke
The funeral for UWRF student Alyssa Funke, 19, is Tuesday, April 29, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Stillwater, Minn. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. UWRF will provide transportation to student in need of a ride who are interested in attending. Contact Student Affairs at 4444, ext. 114 to arrange a ride. Vans will depart from Johnson Hall south lot at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Tuesday, April 29, 6-7 p.m., 281 KFA, Spanish Professions Association speaker:  Alberto Fierro. Presentation will be in spanish. Fierro, the current Consul of Mexico in St. Paul, Minn., has been a member of Mexico's Diplomatic Corps since 1993. Consul Fierro will reflect on the actual challenges México faces with the United States and its involvement as a member of NAFTA. He will also focus on the future of the North America region. *  9-10 a.m. or 2-3 p.m., St. Croix Room, UC, CSAC presentation. The Classified Staff Advisory Council (CSAC) sub-committee reviewing campus procedures for DERA/DMC submission, evaluation and award distribution for classified staff will highlight proposed changes via power-point presentation. Attend either presentation.There will be a short question and answer period following the presentation and feedback on the proposed changes will be collected prior to formal submission to CSAC on May 8. *  noon-1 p.m., 201 Rodli Hall, Lunch and Learn:  The Brazilian Experience. Hosted by Brazilian students enrolled in Intensive English Program classes. Attend to learn Portuguese and learn about Brazilian culture. Light lunch and beverages provided. Open to faculty, staff and students. *  1:45 p.m., mock tornado drill. The drill will go on as scheduled today.

*  3:30-4 p.m., 15 North Hall, Mathematics Seminar:  "The Building Blocks of Fun: A Panel Discussion with Mathematical Modeling Contest Meritorious Winners." The 2014 Mathematical Modeling Contest asked competitors to develop metrics that would determine the best coach in a variety of college sports. The UWRF team created two metrics synthesizing their knowledge of statistics and four different mathematical software packages. Learn about their experience in this fun competition.

*  7:30 p.m., Syse Theatre, KFA, University Theatre "Kwaidan: Strange Tales from East Asia."
