Bass honored as 2018 Distinguished Teacher

Animal Science Assistant Professor Casie Bass stands with her father, Mike Isom, after being introduced by Chancellor Van Galen as the 2018 Distinguished Teacher at a reception Wednesday in the Wyman Education Building. She is the 55th faculty member to be honored with the award since its inception in 1965. A plaque bearing her likeness (bottom left) was added to the wall of distinguished teachers. As the recipient of the Distinguished Teacher Award, Bass will deliver an address at the fall commencement ceremonies in December. Please join us in welcoming Dina Fassino as the new director of University Communications and Marketing (UCM) and campus public information officer. Dina is responsible for institutional communications, marketing strategy and media relations as well as oversight and coordination of all services provided by UCM including writing, editing, design, branding, photography, uwrf.edu and official social media channels. Dina came to UWRF Sept. 7 with nearly 20 years in institutional communication leadership at HealthEast as well as prior experiences in broadcast journalism and corporate communications. She holds a BA in journalism from St. Cloud State University. Dina can be found in 120B North Hall and can be reached at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> and 4306.

Early time entry and approval deadline for the next two biweekly payrolls
There are early time and absence deadlines for student employees, temporary employees and University Staff for the next two payrolls. Time and absences must be approved by 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, and by 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2. Please make a note of these early deadlines. Building heating/hot water outage
The Central Heating Plant will need to shutdown to replace a piece of failed electrical equipment critical to the building’s operation. The main campus will be without steam from 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, until 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22. The steam outage will significantly limit the amount of hot water and heat available in campus buildings during this time. Please keep windows closed during this outage to maintain heat in the buildings. The Falcon Center and C.H.I.L.D. Center will be unaffected. ‘Smart Cities - Smart Futures’ competition
Foxconn has announced its “Smart Cities - Smart Futures” competition. Foxconn’s goal is to incentivize our students, faculty, and staff to develop innovative ideas and drive technological innovation to improve experiences, productivity, efficiency and convenience for our communities. Foxconn is committing up to $1 million over three years, with the first round of the 2018-19 program opening Oct. 1. Successive rounds are planned during the remainder of the academic year. Confidential shredding opportunity
Reminder: Facilities Management will have a mobile shredder on campus the week of Sept. 24. Material to be shredded must have met the legal retention period. If you have materials to be shredded, box them up and submit a work order indicating the number of boxes and the location to be picked up. Please keep box sizes reasonable for easy handling. Boxes will only be picked up if they are clearly marked “SHRED.” All work orders must be submitted by Wednesday, Sept. 19. Boxes will be collected as work orders are received and will be kept in a secure storage area until shredding occurs. This service provided free to campus departments. Parking deductions now post-tax
Due to tax liability implications of the Tax Cuts and Job Act passed by the Federal Government effective Jan. 1, 2018, the UW System had to change your pre-tax payroll deductions for parking. Starting with payrolls dated on or after June 1, 2018, these fees are deducted on a post-tax basis for all UW System employees. If you are paid monthly, you will see your post-tax parking deduction start on the Oct. 1 paycheck (for pay period Sept. 1-30). If you are paid biweekly, you will see your post-tax parking deductions start on the Sept. 13 paycheck (for pay period Aug. 19-Sept. 1).
