Merit awards reception set for Monday

All UWRF faculty, staff, family and friends are invited to a reception to honor faculty and staff with the highest institutional awards offered by the UWRF. Four merit awards will be presented Monday, Nov. 18, in the Riverview Ballroom, UC, with a dessert reception from 12:45-2 p.m. And program at 1 p.m. Please RSVP to [log in to unmask] or call 3202. Awards include Chancellor's Recognition Award for Classified Staff:  Connie Smith and Jason Unseth; Chancellor's Award for Excellence for Academic Staff:  Kristen Allen (posthumously); Academic Adviser of the Year:  Kathleen Hunzer; and Distinguished Teacher of the Year:  Brenda Wright.

Saturday, Nov. 16, 10:30 a.m., Community Room, River Falls Public Library, Panel discussion:  "Lean In:  Women and the Will to Lead" by Sheryl SandbergSponsored by the River Falls chapter of the American Association of University Women. Panelists include Connie Foster, who served in a variety of administrative roles at UWRF including interim Chancellor; Betty Wetherell-Gustafson, director-Account Management at West-Thomson Reuters; and Susan Lee, programmer analyst at Datacard Group. Sunday, Nov. 17, 7:30 p.m., Abbott Concert Hall, KFA, River Falls Brass Concert. Made up of brass faculty Thomas Barnett and Craig Hara, trumpet; Matt Wilson, horn; Rick Gaynor, trombone; and Charles Wazanowski, tuba. The River Falls Brass performs regularly on campus, and presents clinics and recitals at area schools. Contact the Music Department at 3183.

Tuesday, Nov. 19, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Riverview Ballroom, UC, Regional Regeneration Symposium co-sponsored by the UWRF Tissue and Cellular Innovation Center and the University of Minnesota Stem Cell Institute Masters program. This scientific showcase will focus on stem cell and regenerative medicine research at both the TCIC and the SCI. Graduate student researchers from the SCI will present research done in relation to their thesis work and UWRF research students will present work related to summer research internships from the summer of 2013.
