The Plant and Earth Science Department is sponsoring an off-campus activity and a student in your course might miss class time.  The offices of the Provost and the Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs require that students provide this notice to you no later than one week prior to their scheduled activity to be in compliance with appropriate policies.  Your consideration in allowing them to complete course assignments and work in compliance with these university’s policies* is appreciated.  Thank you for your support and cooperation. Activity: Field trip to the Wastewater Treatment Plant in River Falls
Academic Rationale for Absence: Students in Environmental Sustainability (ESM 220) will receive an in-depth tour of the wastewater treatment plant in River Falls from the plant manager.  Students will get an up close and personal view of the efforts required to handle a major waste stream in society.  This field trip also presents an excellent example of how microbes create environmental “sinks” for different wastes.
