RE: Off-Campus, University-Sanctioned Event
FROM: Jill Coleman Wasik
The Plant and Earth Science Department is sponsoring an off-campus activity and a student in your course might miss class time. The offices of the Provost and the Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs require that students provide this notice to you no later than one week prior to their scheduled activity to be in compliance with appropriate policies. Your consideration in allowing them to complete course assignments and work in compliance with these university’s policies* is appreciated. Thank you for your support and cooperation. Additional details are below.
Dates & Times (“activities should not be scheduled during the final exam period or one week prior to final examinations”): February 15, 2017 Departing at 12pm and returning at 6pm
Activity: Pine Lake and West Pine Lake, St. Croix County WI
Academic Rationale for Absence: This field trip will take students in Environmental Analysis (ESM 413) sediment coring on two lakes in the region. Students will gain experience working in the fields of limnology and paleolimnology by collecting a series of sediment cores from two lakes. The samples collected by students will form the basis of final group projects that they are expected to complete for the class. They will also meet and work with an environmental scientist from the Science Museum of Minnesota’s St. Croix Watershed Research Station thereby expanding their professional network and gaining exposure to different career paths.
