announcement: Approved 10.4.17
TO: UWRF Colleagues
RE: Off-Campus, University-Sanctioned Event
FROM: Rellen Hardtke, Physics
DATE: October 2, 2017
The College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) 101-01 course, The Universe in 14 Weeks, is sponsoring an off-campus activity and a student in your course might miss class time. The offices of the Provost and the Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs require that students provide this notice to you no later than one week prior to their scheduled activity to be in compliance with appropriate policies. Your consideration in allowing them to complete course assignments and work in compliance with these university’s policies* is appreciated. Thank you for your support and cooperation. Additional details are below.
Dates & Times: Tuesday, October 10, 2017, 9:30am - 2:30pm
Activity: Science Museum of Minnesota (SMM), St. Paul, MN and SMM film
Academic Rationale for Absence: SMM’s exhibits complement the course content of CAS 101-01 in a hands-on, visual, interactive way, including the history of life on earth, earth and space science, evolution, and how science is conducted. The film, Journey to the South Pacific, provides a portrait of a complex ecosystem -- where a wide variety of flora and fauna have evolved -- whose fate, as well as the fate of the indigenous island peoples and cultures, teeter on the future effects of climate change and rising sea levels.
