RE: Off-Campus, University-Sanctioned Event
FROM: Steven Kelm, Department of Animal and Food Science
The Animal and Food Science Department is sponsoring an off-campus activity and a student in your course might miss class time. The offices of the Provost and the Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs require that students provide this notice to you no later than one week prior to their scheduled activity to be in compliance with appropriate policies. Your consideration in allowing them to complete course assignments and work in compliance with these university’s policies* is appreciated. Thank you for your support and cooperation. Additional details are below.
Dates & Times (“activities should not be scheduled during the final exam period or one week prior to final examinations”): Departure: 6 AM, Friday, Feb 3, 2017; Return: 3 PM, Sunday, Feb 5
Activity: American Dairy Science Association – Student Affiliate Division, Midwest Section conference. The conference is hosted by South Dakota State University and will be held in Brookings, South Dakota, on Friday and Saturday. Conference activities include formal business meetings, quiz bowl competitions, industry and academic seminars, and social activities. Approximately 500 students from universities in the Midwest will be in attendance.
Academic Rationale for Absence: The ADSA group is an international organization of educators, scientists and industrialists who are committed to advancing the dairy industry. The student affiliate is composed of graduate and undergraduate students who are studying agriculture or food science. The regional meeting allows UWRF students to interact with students from Midwestern universities such as Ohio State, Michigan State, and Minnesota. During the event, students will also meet program advisors from the host institution, network with dairy industry professionals, and explore current research efforts. Conference activities include formal business meetings, quiz bowl competitions, industry and academic seminars, and social activities. Approximately 500 students from universities in the Midwest will be in attendance.
