The Teacher Education Department is sponsoring an off-campus activity and a student in your course might miss class time. The offices of the Provost and the Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs require that students provide this notice to you no later than one week prior to their scheduled activity to be in compliance with appropriate policies. Your consideration in allowing them to complete course assignments and work in compliance with these university’s policies* is appreciated. Thank you for your support and cooperation. Dates & Times (“activities should not be scheduled during the final exam period or one week prior to final examinations”): 10/20/2016. Departure from campus at 10:30 AM and returning at 5:00 PM.
Activity: Minnesota Educator Academy (MEA)
Professional development for educators, by educators. The 2016 conference takes place at Saint Paul RiverCentre in downtown St. Paul
Academic Rationale for Absence: Students participating in the TEACH Leadership Learning Community who are enrolled in Teacher Education 155 will be attending a Lecture delivered by Dr. Anton Treuer. The topic of his address discusses cultural competency and equity. Dr. Anton Treuer, a prolific author and authority on the Ojibwe language and culture, will return to talk about cultural competency and equity. He is the executive director of the American Indian Resource Center at Bemidji State University and the editor of the Oshkaabewis (pronounced o-shkaah-bay-wis) Native Journal, the only academic journal of the Ojibwe language.
