than one week prior to 
their scheduled 
activity to be in 
compliance with 
appropriate policies.

allowing them to 
complete course 
assignments and work in 
compliance with these

Dates & Times: 
Departure 10/21/2014 at 
noon – return the 
evening of 10/26 

Activity: Students will 
be competing in an 
intercollegiate judging 
contest at the Arabian 
Nationals Horse Show in 
Tulsa Oklahoma. Please 
see itinerary below. 
Tue Oct 21st - travel 
half way to Oklahoma.  
– Wed Oct 23rd - travel 
the rest of the way to 
Tulsa Oklahoma and 
practice judging the 
afternoon of the 22nd 
and the 23rd. Fri Oct 
24th – Judging Contest, 
students will judge 10 
classes of 4 horses. 
Sat Oct 25th – Students 
will attend mandatory 
breakfast and awards 
presentation. Sun Oct 
25th - Travel to River 
Falls
Academic Rationale for 
Absence:   
Participating in an 
intercollegiate judging 
contest is a wonderful 
opportunity for 
students to further 
their knowledge of the 
equine industry. They 
get the opportunity to 
showcase what they have 
learned at UWRF while 
promoting the 
University on a 
national scene. 
Students will also have 
the opportunity to 
network with potential 
employers.

Activities and Field 
Trips: Students will 
not be penalized for 
missing class in order 
to participate in 
University sanctioned 
events. If class 
attendance is a 
requirement, missing a 
class in order to 
participate in a 
University-sanctioned 
event will not be 
counted as an absence. 
Such absences do not 
relieve the students of 
any of their class 
responsibilities (e.g., 
homework, exams, 
lecture notes, etc.). 
Students are 
responsible for 
completing course 
requirements that are 
due on the dates of 
University-sanctioned 
events per prior 
agreement with the 
instructor. A 
University-sanctioned 
event is defined to be 
any extracurricular 
event (e.g., 
educational field trips 
or conferences, 
theatrical 
performances, 
intercollegiate 
athletic contests, 
musical performance or 
tours, etc.) as 
approved by the Provost 
and Vice Chancellor for 
Academic Affairs.
