Activity:
Assist with managing Midwest Horse Fair event at Alliant Energy Center, Madison Wisconsin and serve as community liason for the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Horseman's Association, and Intercollegiate Horse Show Association, and attend numberous educational lectures, demonstrations, and hands on learning presentations.
Academic Rationale for Absence:
Participate with event staff in hosting the oldest and largest promotional and educational event in midwestern horse industry. Students will learn how to read and interpret equine health certificates and federally required diagnostic tests, and various ways of positively identifying horses using color and markings, tatoos and other techniques including microchip readers. Students will also develop and refine communication skills as they represent the University, our programs, and two of our student organizations to the general public. Both listening skills and public speaking skills are emphasized as they answer questions from prospective students, parents, alumni, and the general public. Additionally, they activities earn them free admission to the extensive lineup of educational offerings throughout the weekend. Finally the industry wide opportunities for  networking and developing connections for internships and employment cannot be overstated.
