RE: Off-Campus, University-Sanctioned Event
FROM: Sonja L. Maki, Plant & Earth Science Dept.
The Plant & Earth Science Department is sponsoring an off-campus activity and a student in your course might miss class time. The offices of the Provost and the Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs require that students provide this notice to you no later than one week prior to their scheduled activity to be in compliance with appropriate policies. Your consideration in allowing them to complete course assignments and work in compliance with these university’s policies* is appreciated. Thank you for your support and cooperation. Additional details are below.
Dates & Times (“activities should not be scheduled during the final exam period or one week prior to final examinations”): Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 7:15 AM – 12:00 Noon
Activity: Bachman's Floral, 6010 Lyndale Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55419 and Koehler & Dramm, 2407 E Hennepin Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55413
Academic Rationale for Absence: The purpose of this field trip is to introduce students in HORT 420-Floriculture to a major floral retail operation (Bachman’s) where they will observe operations such as large scale floral design, customer service and retail store design and management. Students will also visit Kohler & Dramm to learn about the wholesale floral industry. They will be see how flowers are shipped in from all over the world and held in large cooling facilities, picked for floral shop orders and learn about the wide variety of materials important to floral designers.
