RE: Off-Campus, University-Sanctioned Event
FROM: Steven Kelm, Ph.D.; Department of Animal and Food Science
The Animal and Food Science Department is sponsoring an off-campus activity and a student in your course might miss class time. The offices of the Provost and the Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs require that students provide this notice to you no later than one week prior to their scheduled activity to be in compliance with appropriate policies. Your consideration in allowing them to complete course assignments and work in compliance with these university’s policies is appreciated. Thank you for your support and cooperation.
Dates & Times: Group 1 Departure: Monday, March 11 (5 PM); Return: Thurs, March 14 (8 PM) Group 2 Departure: Tuesday, March 12 (5 PM); Return: Thursday, March 14 (8 PM)
Activity: Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin (PDPW) Business Conference, Mentorship gathering. The conference starts at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, March 13 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. The conference concludes at 4:00 PM on Thursday, March 14. Individuals in Group 1 have volunteered to help with conference set-up, administration, and tear-down (registration, speaker announcement, other behind-the-scene service activities). Individuals in Group 2 are participating in the conference itself and have been participating prior to the event by working with their designated mentors.
Academic Rationale for Absence: The students listed below have received the opportunity to participate in the annual business conference of the Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin (PDPW) on March 13 and 14. The conference is a 2-day event held in Madison, WI and brings together over 1,000 dairy industry professionals for seminars on business management and cutting-edge technology within the dairy industry. The PDPW organization has assembled an educational program specifically for students within the UW system, including job shadowing prior to the conference with an appointed mentor. Students must apply to be accepted into this program and complete work prior to the conference to be eligible to attend.
