RE: Off-Campus, University-Sanctioned Event
FROM: Jill Coleman Wasik
The Plant and Earth Science Department is sponsoring an off-campus activity and a student in your course might miss class time. The offices of the Provost and the Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs require that students provide this notice to you no later than one week prior to their scheduled activity to be in compliance with appropriate policies. Your consideration in allowing them to complete course assignments and work in compliance with these university’s policies* is appreciated. Thank you for your support and cooperation. Additional details are below.
Dates & Times (“activities should not be scheduled during the final exam period or one week prior to final examinations”): March 22, 2017 Departing at 11am and returning at 6pm
Activity: Limnological Research Center, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN
Students in ESM 413 will visit a specialized laboratory devoted to the processing and analysis of lake sediment cores.
Academic Rationale for Absence: This field trip is a highlight of the Environmental Analysis course (ESM 413). Students collected 3 sediment cores on February 15th from a regional lake and will analyze these cores at the LRC/LacCore facility at the University of Minnesota. The LRC/LacCore facility is an internationally recognized geoscience laboratory in our region and our students will be introduced to state of the science analytical techniques as well as meet prominent geoscientists.
