Academic Standards
Committee
AGENDA
October 23, 2012, Noon,
210 AGS

1. Review and approve
minutes from October 2,
2012.

2. Continue discussion
of how UWRF receives
transcripts from
international
institutions with the
potential of developing
a campus policy. (See
Minutes from May 1 and
8, 2012)

Review and discuss the
following DRAFT policy
(developed by D.
VandeYacht, Brent Green
and others in the UW
Stytem)

Transcripts issued by a
U.S. accredited
institution will be
evaluated by University
of Wisconsin-River Falls
(UWRF) Registrar’s
office with consultation
of Dean’s Offices,
Department Chairs, and
Advisors. Transcripts
issued by a non U.S.
institution that do not
have either a Memorandum
of Understanding(MOU) or
an articulation
agreement with UWRF in
place need to be
evaluated by a third-
party transcript
evaluation service. The
purpose of the
transcript evaluation
service is to provide
UWRF with an English
translation of courses,
credits and grading
systems as they appear
on the foreign
transcript, as well as
to verify the foreign
institution’s
accreditation. Any fees
associated with the
third party evaluation
service are to be paid
for by the student.
Upon receipt of official
transcripts, and any
related documentation
from the evaluation
service, the Registrar’s
Office, with
consultation of Dean’s
Offices/Department
Chairs/Advisors, will
apply approved
transferrable credit
towards academic
requirements of the
university.

Once an evaluation has
been completed, grades
will be recorded on the
UWRF record as they
appear on the transcript
from the host
institution or according
to the MOU/articulation
agreement or as provided
by the transcript
evaluation service.
Transfer grades will not
be calculated in the
official university GPA.
Credits and GPA will
affect the major GPA if
transfer credits are
awarded to meet major
requirements on the
degree audit. This may
also affect honors and
awards.

To assist the student,
we recommend the
following transcript
evaluation services:
• Educational Credential
Evaluators:

• World Education
Services, Inc:

3. Review and revise the
current policy on course
re-takes. The current
policy states that only
one "W" will be allowed
per course on a
student's transcript.
There is no way to
enforce this policy
given present
procedures.
