RE: Off-Campus, University-Sanctioned Event
FROM: Sonja L. Maki, Plant & Earth Science Department
The Plant & Earth Science Department is sponsoring an off-campus activity and a student in your course might miss class time. The offices of the Provost and the Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs require that students provide this notice to you no later than one week prior to their scheduled activity to be in compliance with appropriate policies. Your consideration in allowing them to complete course assignments and work in compliance with these university’s policies* is appreciated. Thank you for your support and cooperation. Additional details are below.
Dates & Times (“activities should not be scheduled during the final exam period or one week prior to final examinations”): Tuesday, February 7, 2017 from 9:30 AM – 1:00 PM
Activity: Wagner’s Greenhouse Tour, 6024 Penn Ave S. Minneapolis, MN
Academic Rationale for Absence: Students in the HORT 420 Floriculture class will learn how specialty floral crops and bedding plants are grown for the greenhouse industry. They will observe germination rooms, automatic seeding, robotic transplanting, IPM management, large scale greenhouse operations and some retail operations which directly relates to the crops they are producing in the laboratory portion of the course.
