RE: Off-Campus, University-Sanctioned Event
FROM: K. Samantha Nichols, Biology Department
The Biology Department is sponsoring an off-campus activity and a student in your course might miss class time. The offices of the Provost and the Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs require that students provide this notice to you no later than one week prior to their scheduled activity to be in compliance with appropriate policies. Your consideration in allowing them to complete course assignments and work in compliance with these university's policies* is appreciated. Thank you for your support and cooperation. Additional details are below.
Dates & Times ("activities should not be scheduled during the final exam period or one week prior to final examinations"): March 7, 2018, 8am departure and 1pm return
Activity: Students in Biol 444 (Ornithology) are traveling to the Minnesota Zoo to observe tropical and native birds up close and to learn about the conservation efforts the Minnesota Zoo participates in.
Academic Rationale for Absence: Students will get to observe live birds up close and in particular will be able to observe live birds of species that cannot be found in the upper Midwest. Students will get to meet with, learn from, and ask questions of biologists working in the fields of ornithology and conservation.
