RE: Off-Campus, University-Sanctioned Event
FROM: Paul Shirilla, Health and Human Performance
The Health and Human Performance Department is sponsoring an off-campus activity and a student in your course might miss class time. The offices of the Provost and the Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs require that students provide this notice to you no later than one week prior to their scheduled activity to be in compliance with appropriate policies. Your consideration in allowing them to complete course assignments and work in compliance with these university’s policies* is appreciated. Thank you for your support and cooperation. Additional details are below.
Dates & Times: Wednesday, November 9th at 8am until Friday, November 11th at 5pm
Activity: Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education International Conference, Minneapolis, MN
Academic Rationale for Absence: The two most prominent professional organizations in the outdoor/adventure/experiential education field are holding their international conferences in Minneapolis this fall. This is a unique opportunity for students in the Outdoor Adventure Education (OAE) minor to advance their professional development by attending one of these conferences. In PED 301, Foundations of Outdoor Leadership, attendance at one of these conferences is mandatory (a special fee was approved to have the costs of the events added to the course). I have strongly encouraged other OAE students not taking PED 301 to attend.
