Falcon softball team wins WIAC tournament championship

The Falcon softball team won its second straight WIAC Tournament Championship in games played in Eau Claire over the weekend. The Falcons opened with a 8-0 win over UW-Stout on Friday. On Saturday the Falcons lost to Whitewater, 9-2, which meant the team could not lose again in the double elimination tourney. Later Saturday UWRF beat UW-Platteville, 4-3, in a game that was delayed for three hours by rain. On Sunday the Falcons played UW-Eau Claire in an elimination game and won, 4-3. That meant the Falcons had to play Whitewater again, and this time the Falcons took a 4-1 win. That set up the final game of the day and UWRF topped UW-Whitewater, 8-4, to claim the title. UWRF earned the WIAC automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament and the Falcons will play Central College at noon on Friday, May 11, in Pella, Iowa, in the first round of the double elimination tournament. More information can be found at the UWRF Athletics website at www.uwrfsports.com.
