CAFES Centennial Kick-Off begins today

CAFES Centennial Kick-Off begins today, April 19, at 3 p.m. in the atrium of the Ag Science building (outside 200 Ag Science)The College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences will begin the year-long centennial celebration by honoring two golden threads woven through the College history – "Wisconsin’s Agriculture" embodied by our Distinguished Agriculturalists and "exceptional teaching," exemplified by our University Distinguished Teachers. The campus community is invited to join us at the rededication of the Agricultural Hall of Fame, the wall honoring the Wisconsin Distinguished Agriculturalists. A reception will follow the rededication. The day will culminate with the 46th Annual Awards Banquet recognizing and celebrating the achievements of CAFES students. Contact laura.walsh@uwrf.edu,

* Some 200 seventh graders from Washington Technology Magnet School in St. Paul are on campus today from 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. as part of Gear Up Get Ready. For more information, contact geoffrey.scheurman@uwrf.edu.

*  noon-2 p.m., Falcon's Nest, UC, Spring Research, Scholarly and Creative Activity (RSCA) Day. Students and faculty in all fields will share the results of their work through posters. Open to everyone.

*  1:45 p.m. and 6 p.m., Sirens will sound in River Falls (and Hudson). This week is Tornado & Severe Weather Awareness Week in Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Emergency Management team and the five National Weather Service Forecast Offices that service Wisconsin are asking that everyone take time to review safety procedures so that they will be ready when severe weather strikes. Tornado shelter areas are highlighted on the Tornado and Fire Procedures maps located on each floor in main campus buildings.

*  3-5 p.m. and 5-7 p.m., Wall Amphitheatre, Civil War Re-enactment. Organized and sponsored by the UWRF History Club. Performed by a husband and wfie who re-enact military and household aspects of life during the Civil War.  Free and open to the public. Rain site is Abbott Concert Hall, KFA. *  7:30 p.m., Blanche Davis Theatre, KFA, University Theatre:  "Richard III." Historical play by William Shakespeare. In order to make the political action of the play more prominent, the production is set in the present day. While the text is trimmed, the traditional language is retained. All performances are free as a  "thanks" to UWRF theater patrons and supporters. Everyone welcome. Seating is reserved, so a ticket is needed. Box Office hours in KFA are 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on the nights of the performances. Contact the Box Office at 3114. Additional performances are April 20-21 and 26-28.

*  The Q metered lot located off Spring Street is reserved tomorrow, April 20, for a campus event. This does not include Q Faculty and motorcycle spaces. A portion of the lot may reopen for metered parking after 1:30 p.m. Direct questions to the Parking Office at 3333.


*  The deadline for donations to the 2nd Hand Store is tomorrow, April 20, at 5 p.m. A yellow collection bin is located at the Information Desk, UC. Donations of gently or unused clothes, accessories, CD's, books, household items, etc. are greatly appreciated. All proceeds will benefit the local Kinnickinnic Backpack Program.
