Annual Skate with the Falcons event scores big with kids


Six-year-old Kraly Walker pulls the women's  hockey team members around the ice Saturday during the Skate with the Falcons event at Hunt Arena following the women's hockey game. Walker is the daughter of UWRF football coach Matt Walker. A handful of people turned out for the yearly event. New Project Manager in Facilities Management
Please welcome Alan Symicek as Facilities Engineer in Facilities Management. Alan graduated with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Milwaukee School of Engineering followed by project manager experience with NSI Electric, Town & Country Electric, Parsons Electric LLC, and UW-Stout as an engineering specialist and most recently interim assistant director of the Physical Plant. Alan is a licensed Wisconsin Professional Engineer. He began his new duties Jan. 23.

15-Passenger Van Training
Training for 15-passengers vans is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 16, starting at 7:30 a.m. in Facilities Management. Training includes a classroom session followed with behind the wheel driving. For those needing re-certification, driving will begin at 8:45 am. A fee of $50 will be charged to your department account. To register, contact brenda.dunse@uwrf.edu. Call 3827 with questions.

CSP holding food drive through Thursday
In honor of National School Counseling Week 2012, the UWRF School Counseling Student Association is holding a food drive to benefit the local River Falls Community Food Pantry. Donations of non-perishable food items can be dropped off in the boxes located in WEB 224 or 257 through Thursday, Feb. 9. Contact caroline.baker@uwrf.edu.


Northwest Regional Technology Showcase set for Feb. 24

The UW System’s Learning Technology Development Council (LTDC) is pleased to sponsor the Northwest Regional Showcase to be held at UW-Eau Claire on Friday, Feb. 24, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The showcase, hosted by the UW regional institutions: Colleges-Barron County, Eau Claire, River Falls, Stout, and Superior, and sponsored by a grant from the LTDC, will consist of a keynote by Barry Dahl, an independent contractor and consultant with a focus on e-Learning and educational technology; multiple sessions lead by faculty/instructors from the five institutions focusing on incorporating online tools and other emerging technologies into their courses to ramp up student learning and engagement; and, EdTech vender showcase. All registered attendees will receive lunch and a choice of a  book (titles listed in the registration form) for participating in the showcase. For more information, including the names of the session presenters and session titles, visit http://www.uwec.edu/CETL/programs/TFT2012.htm Technology Services will be providing transportation to/from the showcase.
