Now you know

Some 335 UW-River Falls students participated in study abroad this academic year, an increase of nearly 50 percent over five years ago. The most frequently visited nations were Scotland, Costa Rica, Germany, Belize, Ireland and Japan.

Students display art at the Phipps Center for Arts

Student creations from the fibers studio at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls are being displayed in the Phipps Center for Arts May 6-June 12. The pieces chosen for this exhibit were created by current students, as well as by previous students over the past 14 years. Facilities Management Notices

If you have keys you are no longer using, return them to Facilities Management at 3827.

Power outage for main campus is planned for Sunday, May 15 for repair work. Power will be off from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. This power outage will not affect the C.H.I.L.D. Center or Hunt/Knowles complex. If you have questions, call Facilities Management at 3827.

Campus boilers are down every spring for two weeks following the closing of the residence halls. The shutdown will begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, and will be back on at noon on Tuesday, May 31. Steam that provides hot water, cooking, distilling, pasteurization, drying and sterilization will not be available during this time. For questions contact Bill Girnau at 3955.


UWRF to sponsor Success Saturdays with the Saint Paul Saints this summer

UWRF will be sponsoring eight Saturday evening (7 pm) Saint Paul Saints games this summer: May 14, May 21, June 11, June 25, July 9, July 23, Aug 6, and Aug 20. 

Join us at Midway Stadium where you can not only enjoy a great ball game, but visit our booth and win prizes, hang with Freddy and wear your UWRF gear to show your pride at the games.

University Communications will be hosting a farewell reception for Marketing Specialist, Lisa Stratton, on Tuesday, May 17 from 1-2 p.m. in their conference room located at 120 North Hall. Lisa will be beginning her new position as a Project Manager for Christiansen Creative on May 18. All are welcome to attend.


Join the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences on Thursday, May 19 for a reception honoring Purnendu Vasavada for his 34 years of service to the campus community and beyond.  PC is recognized throughout much of the world as an expert on food safety matters and has raised the profile of UW-River Falls during his years here. The reception will be held in Ag Sciences 211 from 2-4 p.m., with a short program at 2:30 p.m. Come by to enjoy some refreshments, thank PC for his enthusiastic dedication to UWRF and wish him well in the future. Contact Doreen Cegielski at doreen.m.cegielski or 3704.

UW System Office of Professional and Instructional Development (OPID) and DOE (Title III) is sponsoring an Online Teaching Conference on Wednesday, May 18, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.; 118 Wyman Education Building. The speaker will be Mathematics Professor Maria Andersen from Muskegon Community College, author of numerous articles and publications on teaching with technology and http://www.teachingcollegemath.com. The morning session will be a general discussion about online/hybrid teaching which will be suitable for faculty from multiple disciplines. The afternoon session can be attended by anyone, but the discussion will be geared specifically towards online instruction in mathematics. Faculty attending the conference will hear many different ideas on how to deliver a course online. If you are interested in attending, contact erick.b.hofacker@uwrf.edu for more information. Lunch will be provided by the conference. There is no fee to attend, but we would like to have a count for lunch. Contact us by Friday, May 13, as parking passes will be mailed at that time for those in need of one. Participants are encouraged to bring laptops to participate - WiFi will be available.
