UWRF team shines at Dairy Challenge
A UWRF team of (back, left to right) Paul
Lippert, a dairy science major from Pittsville; Alex Geiser, a dairy
science major from Hilbert; and Leonard Polzin a dairy science and
agricultural business major from Cadott and (front row, left), Anne
Spillman a dairy science major from Dennison, Minn., won the highest
award, platinum, at the North American Intercollegiate Dairy Challenge
April 1-2 in Hickory, NC. The team is coached by Animal and Food
Science professors Sylvia Kehoe (not pictured) and Dennis Cooper
(front, right). Thirty-two teams were challenged to conduct a detailed
and confidential analysis of the management of four dairy farm
operations. Out of 30 four-year undergraduate programs from the U.S.
and Canada, only four were awarded the First Platinum recognition,
including Cornell, Penn State, Cal-Fresno, and UWRF. To win first
platinum, each of these teams had to be judged the best among eight
teams assigned to a particular dairy farm. Each of the platinum team
members received $200 scholarships. Submitted photo.
