Opening Day welcome draws crowd

Opening Day photo

The Opening Day welcome by Chancellor Dean Van Galen Tuesday in the UC drew a crowd which included Chief Diversity Officer Andriel Dees (left), Mary Van Galen, and Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance Joseph Harbouk (center). Chancellor Van Galen began his address by reminding everyone that while students "must take a great deal of responsibility for their own success, each of us will also play a role in helping them succeed...what an amazing opportunity this represents."  Tuesday marked UWRF's 135th opening day. Announcements

Department chair workshop set for Aug. 31
All department chairs and administrative unit coordinators are invited to attend a department chair workshop Tuesday, Aug. 31, from noon-4 p.m., beginning with lunch in the Falls Room, UC, following by a three-hour session in the St. Croix Room led by Paige Reed & Jennifer Lattis, both senior System legal counsel representatives. The workshop will focus on open meetings, public records, and employment law. Lattis' biography can be found at
http://www.uwsa.edu/gc-off/staff/lattis.htm; Reed's at
http://www.uwsa.edu/gc-off/staff/reed.htm. Direct any questions to the Provost's office at 3700.

Library reserve items for first day of class
Faculty and staff who want  library reserve items available by the first day of class need to return a signed Library Reserve List, along with the reserve materials, to the circulation desk before the start of the semester. A copy of the Library Reserve List can be downloaded at http://www2.uwrf.edu/library/ereserves/reservelist.pdf. Materials that were on reserve in the past are not automatically renewed each year. A new reserve list needs to be filled out and signed each semester. Contact briana.fiandt@uwrf.edu or call 3542.

General office open hours
Summer hours began May 17 and ended Aug. 20. As always, offices that serve the general public must remain open during the hours of 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in accordance with Section 230.35(4)(f), Chapter 196, Laws of 1977.  We hope you had an enjoyable summer and we look forward to another fantastic year at UWRF. Contact donna.robole@uwrf.edu.

Accounting reminder
Due to an accounting change made this summer, it is no longer sufficient to provide only 'department' on accounting-related requests. All documents or requests that feed the accounting processes now require the full chartfield string of Fund-Program-Department-Project (i.e. XXX-X-XXXXXX-XXXXXXX). Please note that 'project' is used by a very limited group and should be left blank by all others. This change includes requests/forms such as Fast Copy, Purchasing, HR, Facilities, DoTS, invoicing, transfers, Foundation, etc. If you do not know your full string, you can look it up in WISDM or ask your office support person, who has access to WISDM, to provide it to you. Contact Terry Halvorson at 3265 or Dave Sorenson at 3905.

eSIS enhancements
Over the summer eSIS was upgraded to the latest release provided by Oracle/PeopleSoft.  This upgrade has changed a few things. The most notable change is the new navigation. For more detailed information, visit https://www.uwrf.edu/esis/eSISEnhancements.doc.

UWRF emergency procedures guide available
The UWRF Emergency Procedures Guide is available for distribution to new faculty and staff or to returning staff who may have misplaced their copy. If you or employees in your department are in need of this important quick reference guide, contact blake.fry@uwrf.edu.

Call for honorary degree nominations
Nominations for honorary degrees will be accepted until Monday, Nov. 1, by the Honorary Degree Committee (External Relations Committee). UWRF may bestow honorary doctoral degrees on individuals of exceptional accomplishment and distinction who have made significant contributions to the university, region, state or nation; or demonstrated a consistently outstanding record of accomplishment in their field of endeavor.
The following Honorary degree designation may be awarded by UWRF:
Doctor of Laws, Honorus Causa, (LL.D);
Doctor of Science, Honorus Causa, (SD.D.);
Doctor of Humane Letters, Honorus Causa, (L.H.D.);
Doctor of Literature, Honorus Causa, (D.Lit).
A nomination may be initiated by any member of the faculty or academic staff and requires the endorsement of five other members of the faculty or academic staff in order to be considered by the committee. The person presenting the nomination to the committee will submit nomination papers that include a resume of the person being nominated and a letter of nomination which outlines in sufficient detail the qualifications of the nominee. These qualifications should be clearly related to the criteria stated above. For additional information regarding the nomination criteria/procedure, visit
http://www.uwrf.edu/faculty_senate/senate_motions/2007-2008/Motion%2018.pdf.
Please forward nominations to Ozcan Kilic (Chair, Honorary Degree Committee and External Relations Committee) at ozcan.kilic@uwrf.edu. Please direct any questions to the Provost's office at 3700.
