UWRF designated campus-wide
furlough dates set
Governor Doyle has mandated that all state employees
take eight furlough days in each of the next two fiscal years. The
State Furlough Plan is outlined at http://www.uwsa.edu/furloughs/docs/FurloughPlan_pub_final_2009-06-23.pdf.
Full details of the UW System Furlough Plan are provided at http://www.uwsa.edu/furloughs/index.htm
The UW System has mandated that the day after Thanksgiving be a
system-wide furlough day. All UW institutions are required to designate
three additional campus-wide mandatory furlough days. An ad-hoc
committee, consisting of faculty and staff, has recommended, and
President Reilly has approved, three additional UWRF campus-wide
furlough dates that will have the least negative impact on our ability
to serve students:
2009-10
• August 24, 2009
• November 27, 2009 (day after Thanksgiving; UW System mandated for
all campuses)
• December 23, 2009
• March 15, 2010
2010-11
• July 2, 2010
• August 23, 2010
• November 26, 2010 (day after Thanksgiving; UW System mandated for
all campuses)
• December 23, 2010
Furlough time off will be generated on a prorated basis
according to percent time in regular pay status. Full-time, 12-month
employees will be required to take four additional unpaid furlough days
for a total of eight days each year. Full-time, nine-month employees
will be required to take two additional unpaid furlough days for a
total of six days each year. Supervisors are responsible for approving
and scheduling furlough time off before it is used, just as they are
responsible for approving other scheduled leave time.
The procedure for requesting and recording these
additional furlough days will be provided by the Human Resource Office
in the near future. Some critical employees (i.e. power plant and
University Police) will work on mandated furlough days. In consultation
with their supervisors, these employees will select alternate
“floating” furlough days. Unanticipated emergencies may require work on
mandated furlough days, and these exceptions will be accommodated
through this process.
