Now you know
Did you know that state employees are injured on
average 3,546 times per year? The good news is workplace accidents and
injuries are preventable.
The National Safety Council has designated June as “National Safety
Month” to highlight the importance of workplace safety.
To coincide with this national effort, the Department of
Administration’s Bureau of State Risk Management is emphasizing
state employee safety throughout the month.
Most workplace injuries occur in three
categories:
1. “Lifting, moving or restraining loads,” typically resulting in back,
shoulder or neck injuries.
2. “Slips, trips and falls,” typically resulting in concussions, broken
limbs, broken hips or back, shoulder or neck injuries.
3. “Motion of the individual,” which, in an office environment,
includes
ergonomic-related injuries.
BSRM has developed three webcasts that address
each category of accidents and injuries specific to our
workplaces. Throughout June, you will be sent links to the safety
webcasts. Take time to watch as the webcasts
offer valuable information on avoiding accidents and injuries in the
workplace.
During the work day, be alert for
safety hazards and act on them by either resolving or reporting the
problem before someone has an accident.
Safety is everyone’s responsibility.
