Van Galen and Foster share ideas
New Chancellor Dean Van Galen and Provost Connie
Foster, who served as interim chancellor for the past year, take a
break from the whirlwind of activities associated with the chancellor's
second day on campus. As Van Galen re-adjusts to all things Wisconsin
and learns the finer aspects of his new job, he is enjoying meeting

Welcome reception for Chancellor Van Galen
family
You are invited to an informal reception to
welcome UWRF Chancellor Dean Van Galen, his wife, Mary, and their
daughter, Ashley. The reception will be held on the west lawn of North
Hall (rain site is Room 114 North Hall) on Tuesday, June 9, from 2 to 4
p.m. Refreshments, including ice cream from Falcon Foods, will be
provided. Dean and his family are delighted to join the UWRF and River
Falls communities. Please join us for this opportunity to welcome the
Van Galens to the Falcon family.

Outdoor Grill open
The Sodexo Outdoor Grill will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on
Wednesday, June 3, and Thursday, June 4, on the south side of the UC
under the overhang. The grill offers combo meals as well as à la carte
items. Fresh off the grill items include: Falcon brats, hotdogs,
hamburgers, cheeseburgers and veggie burgers. After June 4, the Outdoor
Grill will be available every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the
rest of the summer.
State budget package
The Joint Finance Committee of the Wisconsin legislature has forwarded
a budget package that would extend health and retirement benefits to
domestic partners of state employees. The committee also approved a
same-sex domestic partner registry and additional legal benefits such
as hospital visitation and inheritance rights. All provisions still
need to be approved by the full legislature; the Assembly will likely
take up the bill in the next two weeks. Visit fairwisconsin.com or email UWRF's

Chancellor’s recognition
awards nominations due June 5
Honoring outstanding service to the University is an important
tradition at UWRF. Nominations for the Chancellor’s Recognition Award
for Classified Staff and the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence for
Academic Staff are being accepted through Friday, June 5. Details of
the nomination process are available at http://www.uwrf.edu/awards/.
The announcement of the academic staff and classified recipients will
be made in the Fall 2009.
