Open house details biodiesel production
Senior agricultural engineering technology major
Grant Gabler explains the design and operation of an oilseed press to
UWRF Lab Farm Manager Bill Connolly during the Agricultural Engineering
Technology open house held Thursday. The press is being used to extract
oil from locally grown soybeans; providing oil feedstock for biodiesel
production, and soybean pellets for dairy cattle at the lab farm.
Biodiesel produced from the soybean oil, along with biodiesel produced
from the University Center's waste vegetable oil, is currently being
tested in tractors at the lab farm and lawn mowers on campus. Students
in agricultural engineering technology are designing, evaluating and
implementing a protocol for operation of the press and biodiesel
production for use on-campus and the lab farms. For

UWRF to host two internationalization
consultants Thursday
Two internationalization consultants will visit
campus on Thursday, May 7. An open meeting
for all
interested UWRF faculty and staff is at noon in the Falls Room, UC.
This visit is in keeping with our
commitment to further internationalize the campus and expressly
addresses our strategic plan which in Goal 3 states UWRF will, “Expand
Global Literacy & Engagement.” JoAnn McCarthy, retired assistant
provost for international programs at Pennsylvania University, is a
former faculty member in the foreign languages and has extensive
experience consulting and presenting on internationalization of higher
education. Martha Johnson is the interim director of the Learning
Abroad Center at the University of Minnesota, which has been recognized
nationally for its study abroad program. The consultants’ schedule is
designed to allow for as much feedback from as many campus constituents
as possible, especially those of you who have been involved in
international/global initiatives and activities. We encourage you to
take some
time to meet with these consultants and provide feedback on this highly
important campus initiative. --Terry Brown, Charlie Rader, Brent
