to all faculty and academic staff
Effective Jan. 1, 2008, there are new Board of
Regents’ policies in effect relating to sick leave, vacation, and
personal holiday leave reporting for unclassified staff. Other changes
are effective with sick leave accrued in fiscal year 2007-08 for those
who fail to report leave usage and beginning with the spring 2008
semester, there are changes in sick leave reporting as it relates to
teaching responsibilities. The policy changes follow:
Policy: Sick Leave, Vacation, and Personal Holiday Leave
Reporting for Unclassified Staff. Effective Jan. 1, 2008 it shall
be the policy at each institution in the UW System that sick leave,
vacation, and personal holiday leave for full-time unclassified
employees shall be charged in units of one-half days. Absence of
one-quarter day up to three fourths day shall be charged as one half
day. Absence of three fourths day up to one and one quarter day shall
be charged as one day. Employees with less than full-time appointments
shall report actual hours absent when using sick leave, vacation, and
personal holiday leave.
Policy: Reduction of Sick Leave Accrual for Unclassified
Staff Failing to Report Leave Usage. Effective with sick leave
accrued in fiscal year 2007-08, any employee who fails to file a report
on leave usage as required by UW System policy in one or more months of
any year shall not be permitted to accrue sick leave for that year in
an amount exceeding the cap established by s. 40.05(4)(bp)1., Wis.
Stats. (i.e., 8.5 days for an annual appointee or 6.4 days for an
academic year appointee).
Policy: Sick Leave Reporting and Teaching Responsibilities.
Effective with the beginning of the spring 2008 semester, teaching
responsibilities not met because of an absence specified in UWS 19.01,
Wis. Adm. Code, must be reported as leave, regardless of whether a
qualified instructor covers the aforementioned responsibilities.
Teaching responsibilities include class time preparation, actual
classroom instruction, and scheduled office hours available to students
for educational guidance.

Third Annual Wellness Challenge.
The UWRF Wellness Challenge from Feb. 11 through March 9 is a free
wellness opportunity for all students, faculty and staff. It encourages
healthier living through physical activity, nutrition, safety and
overall wellness. This four-week program is designed with incentives to
develop a commitment to healthy lifestyle choices. You can compete
individually or as a team. Get five or more people and form your own

Tomorrow is the final day to submit
citation information to the library for this year's Celebrating
Research, Scholarship and Creative Achievement day scheduled
for Tuesday, Feb. 19. CRSCA is an annual event honoring the academic
and creative output of UWRF faculty and staff. Submissions can be made

The University
Of Wisconsin Shared Financial System (SFS) will be down beginning at
noon Friday, Feb. 8. We are expecting SFS to be up again Tuesday,
Feb.
19, however the worst case scenario may mean the system will be down
until Feb. 25. SFS will be going through a significant program
release/upgrade that will require that the system be down. During this
time no payments or other transactions will be processed in SFS. This
includes travel expense reimbursements, invoice payments, transfers,
etc. Revenue deposits will continue to be accepted at the Cashier’s
Office. In order to minimize the effects of the downtime, please
make sure that current items that need to be processed are received in
the Accounting Office no later than Tuesday, Feb. 5. WISDM will be
available during the downtime, but no new information will be updated
to WISDM.
