Global warming event on campus Thursday

Focus The Nation is an unprecedented educational initiative on global warming solutions for America occurring at more than 1,500 campuses, faith and civic organizations and in all 50 states on Thursday, Jan. 31. As the largest teach-in in U.S. history, Focus The Nation is preparing millions of students to become leaders in the largest civilizational challenge any generation has faced. Please join us for the Focus the Nation event at UWRF on Thursday, Jan. 31, in the Falcon’s Nest, UC. Open to the public.

The agenda includes:

8  - 8:15 a.m. Nicholas Bisley and Chancellor Betz introduce Focus The Nation.

8:15 - 9:45 a.m. James Hansen Web cast from the Nobel Laureate Conference at Gustavus Adolphus College on Oct. 2-3, 2007, "The Threat to the Planet: The Dark and Bright Sides of Global Warming" (Introduction and facilitation of Q&A Laine Vignona and Kerry Keen, Environmental Science & Management).

9:45 - 10:15 a.m.  UWRF's Sustainable Community Development - Energy & Climate Agenda (Presentation/Q&A) - Kelly Cain, Director, St. Croix Institute for Sustainable Community Development.   

10:15 a.m. - noon  Energy Center Of Wisconsin (Lee DeBallie) presentation of UWRF Energy Audit (funded by WPPI).

Noon - 1:30 p.m.  James Hansen repeat of Web cast from the Nobel Laureate Conference at Gustavus Adolphus College on Oct. 2-3, 2007, "The Threat to the Planet: The Dark and Bright Sides of Global Warming"
 
1:45 - 2:30 p.m.  Rep. Ron Kind presentation/Q&A (Introduction by Mark Kinders). Rep. Kind’s key staff from his LaCrosse office (Brad Pfaff and Karrie Jackelyn) to speak on his behalf in regards to his Climate Change agenda. 

2:30 - 3:45 p.m.  Local Partnerships That Make A Difference. Panel discussion including Mayor Don Richards of the City of River Falls; Jake Oelke, director of Energy Services for Wisconsin Public Power, Inc; Brian Zelenak, Xcel Energy manager of Regulatory Administration; and Mike Stifter, director of Facilities Management at UWRF.  (Intros and facilitation by Kelly Cain).

4 – 6 p.m.  Bonfire at the UC Fire Pit. ECO Club program for building student commitment to campus carbon neutrality.
